Common Surgeries
ORTHOPEDICS
Torn cruciate surgery (TPLO)
Surgical correction of a torn cruciate ligament can be done most commonly with a plating technique called a tibial plateau lateral osteotomy (TPLO). We also offer correction with a suture technique in smaller patients (under 20 pounds).
Luxating patella surgery
A luxating patella is a knee cap that pops out of place. Surgery is completed to realign the knee cap with a variety of techniques.
Femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO)
Femoral head and neck ostectomy removes the “ball” of the hip joint reducing hip pain in animals with hip arthritis, dislocated hips, or fractures of the hip joint.
Fracture repair
We offer repair of a variety of fractures with plates and screws.
Amputations
Limb, digit, or tail amputation may be needed because of tumor growth or trauma. Animals tolerate these procedures very well and can adapt very quickly and happily after surgery.
SOFT TISSUE
Airway surgery
Upper airway surgery improves the ability of brachycephalic, shorter-nosed breeds like French and English Bulldogs, to breathe more comfortably. Shortening their soft palate and widening the narrow nostrils are two of more common procedures we perform.
Ear surgery
Total Ear Canal Ablations (TECA) are commonly performed to alleviate dogs of severely chronic and scarred ear canals from chronic infection or to remove cancer in the ear canal.
Gastrointestinal surgery
We offer a variety of procedures that often involve incision into the stomach or intestines to remove foreign bodies or masses.
Hernia repair
We repair a number of different kinds of hernias (including the umbilical area, inguinal/groin area, or perineal region) by closing the abdominal wall defect or weakened area of muscle.
Urinary surgery
Bladder or urethral surgery is most commonly done to remove stones and address an obstruction of flow to urine in the urinary tract in both dogs and cats.
